Who we are

StreetVet is an award winning national charity delivering free veterinary care and services to the pets of those experiencing homelessness across the UK. Born in 2016, StreetVet was inspired by the incredible bonds that exist between those who are homeless and their pets. StreetVet volunteer vets and vet nurses, working with grass roots organisations to outreach in 23 locations, and growing across the UK every week providing care and support. Since the organisation’s inception we have helped care for thousands of pets, mainly dogs but also cats, rabbits, ferrets, rats, a tortoise and some bearded dragons too! We have vaccinated and microchipped; treated for fleas, protected against lungworm; prescribed pain relief and helped fight infections; performed surgeries; and sometimes just sat and listened. 

StreetVet recognises and champions the importance of the human-animal bond and in discovering that less than 10% of UK hostels are pet friendly, the StreetVet Accredited Hostel Scheme was launched in 2020 to make it as easy as possible for hostels to say yes to pets and prioritise keeping owners and their beloved pets together, as nobody should have to face the impossible choice between a roof over their heads or giving up their best friend. The StreetVet Accredited Hostel Scheme offers support for hostels and temporary accommodation providers to adopt and implement positive pet policies.
