About us
Who we are
Founded in 2002, AMMF was the world’s first charitydedicated solely to cholangiocarcinoma (bile duct cancer).
Today, AMMF remains the UK’s only cholangiocarcinoma charity, now working nationally and across Europe, as
well as actively collaborating globally.
Over recent years an extremely worrying worldwide increase in cholangiocarcinoma’s incidence has been noted. Latest figures for 2020 show that in England alone 2,706 people were diagnosed with cholangiocarcinoma (Acknowledgement: National Cancer Registration and Analysis Service, NHS England). The incidence appears to be increasing across all age groups, including younger people, and the cause of this ongoing increase is unknown. Much more research is therefore desperately needed and this is what the charity focuses on, as well as providing full on support and informaiton for patients and fund raisers.
Our culture and values
Our MISSION: - A world improved for the cholangiocarcinoma patient by the sharing of knowledge across the healthcare and research communities and with the family of affected people across the globe.
Our VISION: - A world where people can live their lives free of cholangiocarcinoma as a life-threatening disease.
We are a dynamic and dedicated organisation, committed to making a significant impact on healthcare outcomes. As a small but rapidly growing charity, we are focused on addressing critical medical challenges and improving healthcare access for those with cholangiocarcinoma. We work closely as a team of like minded passionate individuals, working together in a friendly, supportive and professional environment.
AMMF is wholly committed to tackling the devastating cancer cholangiocarcinoma on all fronts and, ultimately, to help find a cure, through:
SUPPORT: - Providing information to individuals or groups to support a patient or loved one along their journey.
EMPOWERMENT: - Empowering patients and their loved ones to advocate for themselves, seek better care, new treatment options and second opinions.
RESEARCH: - Encouraging and supporting continued research into causes, diagnostics, and new treatment options for those with cholangiocarcinoma.
