About us
Who we are
Ascension Eagles Cheerleaders (AEC) s a youth charity based in Newham, east London. It was established in 1996 to provide a safe, healthy activity to keep young people off the streets and out of trouble.
Three decades later, the social drivers might have changed, but our mission is more important than ever, with so many young people facing risks from social isolation, mental health challenges and the impacts of childhood obesity.
We have built a supportive community which encourages young people to reach their full potential in every aspect of their lives, regardless of their ability, background or circumstances. AEC provides fun, healthy activities which develop their confidence and self-belief.
At Talent Central, over 150 young people take part in our recreational and competitive activities every week. Our inclusive approach extends to our Special Education Needs (SEN) team, ensuring young people with disabilities can also participate and thrive. Alongside this, our schools’ outreach programme reaches more than 250 children weekly. Each year we also welcome hundreds of athletes who train at our gym, including England’s National Cheerleading Team.
It’s the combination of our holistic approach – looking at the young person as a whole, not simply as an athlete – and our focus on building young people’s transferable life skills, which make a real difference to those we serve.
Our culture and values
AEC's values:
- Consistency
- Integrity
- Perseverance
- Persistence
Everything we do is about helping young people to develop life skills and values which will help them to be the best they can be in every aspect of their lives.
Equality, diversity and inclusion policy
Our commitment to diversity and inclusion is key to AEC's identity, and it permeates through everything we do. For us, it means ensuring the fair and equal representation and participation of different groups of people: we believe each individual should be treasured and valued for their whole identity.
Our aim is that all our stakeholders (employees, contractors, professional advisers, volunteers, and participants) feel valued, appreciated, and comfortable in their relationship with AEC. We want them to feel able to be themselves - to bring their whole selves and on their own terms - when engaging with us and any others with whom we collaborate.
