We already have a high profile in government circles, particularly in DFE and BIS, their agencies, and in the media. We are the most influential national voice for secondary school and college leaders.
Our 17,000 members across the UK are not just heads and principals but other senior leaders of secondary schools and colleges. This was the driving factor in changing our name in 2006 from the Secondary Heads Association – to reflect our broad membership.
Our role is to support members in becoming more effective leaders and raising student achievement. We are proud to be involved in the education of young people, as we believe this is one of the most important occupations in our society.
Our members are all successful people who have chosen a career in education and been promoted into senior leadership posts. They can be demanding and rightly expect high standards from those who represent and support them – but they are in most cases highly supportive in turn. Members’ satisfaction of the service we offer is extremely high and membership has increased every year for at least the last decade.
