About us
Who we are
The Association for Citizenship Teaching (ACT) is the professional subject association for Citizenship education. As a national education charity, we support teachers, schools and education leaders to deliver high-quality Citizenship education that equips young people with the knowledge, skills and confidence to participate in society and democracy.
Our vision is for every young person to receive a high-quality Citizenship education that prepares them to become informed, active citizens. We work to strengthen Citizenship education through professional development, curriculum resources, research, policy engagement and a thriving national membership community.
We provide support through professional networking, expert advice, CPD, national conferences, teaching resources and our award-winning journal, Teaching Citizenship. Alongside this, we work closely with government, policymakers and education partners to shape the future of Citizenship education and ensure it has a strong and sustainable place within the education system.
This is an exciting time to join ACT. Following the government's Curriculum and Assessment Review, Citizenship education is being strengthened across secondary education and introduced as a statutory subject in primary schools for the first time. ACT has been appointed by the Department for Education to support the development of the new National Curriculum for Citizenship, placing us at the heart of one of the most significant developments in the subject's history.
As a small, ambitious charity, we offer the opportunity to make a genuine impact. Our team works collaboratively with teachers, academics, policymakers and partner organisations across the education sector to help shape the future of Citizenship education and support schools across England.
Our culture and values
We're a small, collaborative team united by a shared belief in the power of education to strengthen democracy and improve young people's lives.
Everyone at ACT plays an important role in shaping our work. We value initiative, curiosity and collaboration, and we encourage colleagues to bring ideas, take ownership and develop professionally. Because we're a small charity, you'll have the opportunity to work across a wide range of projects, build relationships with teachers, policymakers and education partners, and see the impact of your work first-hand.
Equality, diversity and inclusion policy
ACT is committed to being an inclusive and equitable employer.
We welcome applications from people of all backgrounds and appoint solely on merit. We believe a diverse workforce strengthens our organisation and helps us better represent and support the communities we serve.
We are committed to creating a workplace where everyone feels respected, valued and able to contribute. If you require any adjustments during the recruitment process, we'll work with you to ensure you can participate fully and fairly.
