About us
Who we are
Bekonscot Model Village is the world’s oldest original model village and visitor attraction. Since opening in 1929, Bekonscot has delighted generations of visitors while preserving a unique snapshot of English village life in the 1930s. Operated as a charity, Bekonscot combines heritage, education and tourism with a strong community ethos.
Our culture and values
Many visitors bring their children just as their parents brought them thirty years before! It is a delight that they recognise the Village as they remember it. Protecting this ‘essence of Bekonscot’ is important and helps make the Village unique. That said, the Village is constantly evolving. Since the 1990s the idea has been to present the Village as seven linked towns set in the 1930s. In 1990 a former railway carriage was installed as our ticket office and shop; in 2001 the Bekonscot Light Railway was opened on the edge of the site; in 2018 a ‘New Town’ was added and in 2023 ‘High Shrunkham Junction’ was created to allow visitors to imagine themselves to be living in the 1930s and standing inside one of our stations.
Equality, diversity and inclusion policy
