About us
Who we are
BMABA CIC is a nationally recognised, multi-award-winning social enterprise dedicated to raising standards, strengthening safeguarding, and promoting the safe practice of martial arts across the UK. We support more than 100,000 martial artists and 6,500 instructors, coaches and volunteers, providing governance, education, safeguarding guidance and practical tools to help community clubs thrive. Our work spans safeguarding and welfare support, instructor vetting and club governance, national programmes such as Regulation Ready and Club Colours, and a wide range of training and CPD including safeguarding, SEN, concussion and coaching education. We also develop digital systems for club management and student progression, lead policy development and quality assurance initiatives, and work closely with partners across sport, community and youth sectors to advance standards nationally.
We are ISO 9001:2015 certified, Cyber Essentials certified, and active members of the Sport & Recreation Alliance, the Martial Arts Safeguarding Group (MASG), the Welsh Sports Association, the Scottish Sports Association and a number of safeguarding and children’s rights networks. As a values-driven, mission-led non-profit, we are committed to improving safety, access, inclusion and education across grassroots martial arts. We combine modern digital innovation with robust governance to support clubs in delivering safe, high-quality coaching within their communities. Our small but dedicated team is based in Petworth, West Sussex, working in a supportive, collaborative environment focused on safeguarding, community impact and organisational excellence.
Our culture and values
At BMABA CIC, our culture is grounded in safeguarding, integrity and social impact. We are a mission-led organisation that believes martial arts can be a powerful force for positive change when delivered safely, ethically and inclusively. As a small and dedicated team, we prioritise the safety and welfare of children, young people and adults at risk in every aspect of our work, guided by national best practice, transparency and ethical responsibility. We hold ourselves to high standards of governance, professionalism and personal accountability, and we are committed to doing the right thing even when it is difficult or unseen. We champion the vital role of grassroots clubs and volunteer-led organisations, supporting them with the tools, standards and guidance they need to deliver safe, community-focused coaching. Our approach is modern, adaptable and innovative, making use of digital systems, research and technology to continually improve our services. Above all, we foster a friendly and collaborative working environment that values kindness, respect and psychological safety. Our team works flexibly, trusts each other, and balances professionalism with humanity, reflecting the values we expect across the wider martial arts community.
Equality, diversity and inclusion policy
BMABA CIC is committed to equality, diversity and inclusion in all aspects of our work. We strive to create a fair, respectful and supportive working environment where every colleague feels valued for who they are and the strengths they bring. As a safeguarding-led organisation, we recognise the importance of diversity in improving decision-making, strengthening governance and better serving the communities we support. We actively oppose discrimination and welcome applications from people of all backgrounds, identities and lived experiences, including those under-represented in safeguarding, governance and community sport. We use safer recruitment practices and structured assessment criteria to ensure candidates are judged on their skills, values and potential. We are also happy to discuss reasonable adjustments to the recruitment process or working arrangements to support disability, neurodiversity, caring responsibilities or other individual needs. We are committed to continuous learning and reflection, and we encourage an organisational culture built on fairness, dignity, inclusion and respect.
