About us

Who we are

BrainWaves Research is a charity working to improve young people’s mental health and wellbeing through research, education and collaboration.

We bring together scientists, educators, schools and young people to build a stronger understanding of adolescent mental health and translate evidence into practical support.

Our work combines a major longitudinal research study with evidence-based educational resources for schools. Working in collaboration with the University of Oxford, Swansea University and The Day news & Media, we are building a growing community committed to helping young people live well.

We are an ambitious organisation at an exciting stage of development, with the opportunity to make a meaningful and lasting contribution to how young people’s mental health is understood and supported.

Our culture and values

We are collaborative, evidence-led and ambitious about the difference we can make for young people.

BrainWaves brings together people from different worlds – research, education, schools, charities and beyond – united by a shared commitment to improving young people’s mental health and wellbeing.

We value curiosity, initiative and thoughtful collaboration. As a growing, remote-first organisation, we trust people to take ownership of their work, contribute ideas and help shape how we develop, while staying closely connected to colleagues and partners.

Evidence is at the heart of what we do, but so is making that evidence useful. We aim to turn high-quality research into practical knowledge and resources that can make a real difference to young people, educators and schools.

We also aim to work responsibly and sustainably, continually looking for ways to improve how we operate and reduce our environmental impact.

Above all, we care about doing meaningful work well and creating a supportive, flexible and collaborative environment for the people who make it possible.

Equality, diversity and inclusion policy

BrainWaves Research is an equal opportunities employer. We believe our strength lies in the diversity of our people and are committed to creating an inclusive and equitable environment where everyone feels valued, respected and empowered to contribute their best work.

We are committed to fair and objective recruitment and welcome applications from people of all backgrounds. We do not tolerate discrimination, harassment or victimisation and are committed to ensuring equal opportunities throughout employment.

We value different perspectives, experiences and backgrounds, and believe they strengthen both our organisation and our work. We are also committed to making reasonable adjustments to support accessibility for disabled candidates and employees.
