About us

Who we are

Brighter Horizons is an independent charity that provides support services for neurodivergent adults and people with learning disabilities in southeast London. Our flagship day centre is based at Downham Community Centre and offers opportunities for personal and social development every weekday.

We support over 65 people by providing a diverse and comprehensive timetable of activities across three pathways; physical and emotional health, skills for life and the arts. Everyone who uses our service has a personalised timetable, dedicated key worker and challenging but attainable development goals.

We offer cheerleading, kickboxing, yoga, trampolining, swimming, bike riding, arts & crafts, street dance, golf, cooking lessons, computer sessions, drama groups and music recording as well going out to the gym, for pub lunches, to parks and much more. We also have our own football team and allotment!

We're a growing organisation, having almost doubled the size of our small team over the past few years. We also run Ignition Brewery which is based in Sydenham and provides employment opportunities for neurodivergent adults and people with learning disabilities.

We're proud to offer a range of additional benefits for our staff. These include an enhanced annual leave package (27 days), dependants leave, an employee healthcare scheme, staff training bursaries, a 4% contributory pension and a discount at Ignition Brewery, our trading subsidiary.

Our culture and values

We strive to be a value led organisation and this means that we...

Put people first and believe that our service users and staff are the most important thing about us. Relationships are at the heart of everything we do.

Have integrity and respect, believing that we should take responsibility for our actions and that a strong team is built on honesty, trust and mutual respect.

Are inclusive and accessible, believing that everyone is unique, and that one size doesn’t fit all.

Have fun, believing that this is central to our sense of wellbeing and that we learn better when we are enjoying ourselves.

Equality, diversity and inclusion policy

We belive that that the principles of diversity, equiity, inclusion and belonging are central to our objectives of building community and helping people to find belonging. We are relentless in our pursuit of an inclusive culture which breaks down barriers that stand in the way of these.

As such we're committed to fostering a diverse, equitable, inclusive, and welcoming environment for all. We celebrate the unique backgrounds, perspectives, and abilities of every member of our team, as well as the adults we support. It's important to us that everyone - regardless of ability, identity, or background - feels seen, heard, and valued.
