About us

Who we are

Bristol Dockyards started as an idea to meet global change head on. And all these centuries, inventions, stories, and radical thinking later, ideas are still at the core of it all.

The Dockyards is run by the SS Great Britain Trust, and we bring the spirit of Bristol and Brunel to life through cultural programming, charitable work and an experience that celebrates maritime innovation and global connection for all it’s worth. At heart of what we do we strive:

  • To keep the SS Great Britain shipshape for the next generation.
  • To connect with the greatest breadth of people possible.
  • To create meaningful connections through authentic stories.
  • To inspire everyone with greater knowledge and learning.

Our culture and values

As the home of the SS Great Britain, we encourage each other channel the spirit of Brunel through everything that we do - meeting problems with innovative solutions, delivering experiences with creativity, taking a proactive approach and taking risks when needed.

Our people are the foundation of our success and we’re a friendly, collaborative team creating memorable experiences for every visitor.

From engaging with visitors and delivering inspiring learning programmes to caring for historic collections and supporting operations behind the scenes, every role contributes to bringing our heritage to life.

We’re committed to being a supportive place to work and volunteer where everyone feels valued, can develop their skills and share their ideas.

We believe diverse perspectives strengthen our team and help us connect with our wider community.

Equality, diversity and inclusion policy

Vacancies at Bristol Dockyards are wide-ranging, including positions in our museums and collections, education, fundraising, marketing and finance departments, as well as our visitor facing and estates team who help to make the Dockyards an amazing experience for our visitors.

We pay the Real Living Wage as we believe our staff deserve a wage which meets everyday needs. We offer family friendly policies and flexible working patterns. We are a fully accessible site for wheelchair users.

We welcome candidates from diverse backgrounds, and will put the necessary reasonable adjustments in place for candidates to attend interview, give support during the interview process and will continue this support when a candidate comes to work with us. We are a Disability Confident Employer and offer interviews to candidates who declare they have a disability, if they meet the essential criteria for the role.

We are committed to increasing representation across our teams so they better reflect the diversity of our local community. Applicants from ethnic groups currently under-represented in our workforce who meet the essential criteria will be guaranteed an interview.
