About us

Who we are

British Wireless for the Blind Fund (BWBF) is a nearly 100-year-old national charity supporting people with sight loss across the UK. We provide assistive technology and comprehensive support services that help blind and partially sighted people maintain their independence and stay connected in an increasingly digital world. With a dedicated team working flexibly across the country, we combine decades of expertise with innovative approaches to ensure everyone we support can access the technology that transforms daily life. Every day, we help people with sight loss discover new possibilities and overcome barriers to digital inclusion.

Our culture and values

We're a supportive, distributed team united by our commitment to making a real difference for people with sight loss. We value clear, honest communication and collaborative working, believing the best solutions come from listening to both our service users and each other. Our culture combines the warmth and dedication of our charitable heritage with a forward-thinking approach to service delivery. We encourage innovation, support professional development, and maintain high standards while remembering that behind every task is a person whose life we can improve. Working flexibly across the UK, we trust our team members to deliver excellent results while maintaining work-life balance. We believe in doing things properly rather than just quickly, and in treating everyone - colleagues and service users alike - with patience, respect and genuine care.

Equality, diversity and inclusion policy

BWBF is committed to being an inclusive employer where everyone can thrive. We actively oppose all forms of discrimination and build fairness into every stage of employment - from accessible recruitment processes to flexible working arrangements that respect individual needs. As an organisation supporting people with sight loss, we understand the importance of removing barriers and making reasonable adjustments as standard practice, not exceptions. Our distributed working model naturally supports diverse needs and circumstances. We ensure fair treatment through transparent policies, regular equality training, and open dialogue about inclusion. We particularly welcome applications from people with disabilities and those with lived experience of sight loss, believing diverse perspectives strengthen our ability to serve our community. Our approach isn't just about compliance - it's fundamental to who we are. We monitor our practices, listen to feedback, and continuously improve how we support all team members to contribute their best work. Every role is open to flexible working discussions from day one, and we provide adjustments throughout recruitment and employment without requiring lengthy justifications.
