About us

Who we are

Camcycle is a bold and influential cycle advocacy charity. We campaign for more cycling so that everyone who lives and works in Cambridgeshire can enjoy a better future.

We are a Cambridge-based membership charity with six staff members and over 1,600 members. The staff team is overseen by the board of trustees who are elected by our membership at our AGM each year. We’ve been working for more, better and safer cycling since 1995 and the results can be seen in cycling facilities across Cambridgeshire including high-quality junctions, cycle lanes, cycle parks and bridges.

In 2025, we launched our new strategy, more cycling for a better future, which sets out our focus for the next few years. The three-phase plan is directed by three strategic pillars: the outcome of which will be that more people of all ages, abilities and backgrounds can choose to cycle for more everyday journeys:

  • WE SHAPE THE VISION, being a leading voice helping to shape our region’s transport network with a clear, compelling and evidence-based vision for the future.

  • WE EMPOWER ADVOCATES, nurturing cycle advocacy by building strong relationships with people at every level of change and developing the activities that empower others to speak and work for more, better and safer cycling.

  • WE DELIVER SOLUTIONS, providing high-quality infrastructure and cycle-friendly places by bringing people together to co-create the positive and practical solutions that make cycling better and safer for people of all ages, abilities and backgrounds.

Our culture and values

These five values direct our work:

BOLD: We are proactive and agenda-setting, confident to speak truth to power and to push for the brave solutions that are needed to achieve transformational change.

INCLUSIVE: We are an open and democratic membership charity, working to achieve our vision of a place that is safe and accessible for all types of rider and cycle. We strive to reflect and represent the diverse communities we serve.

KNOWLEDGEABLE: We draw on the knowledge, expertise and lived experience of a wide network of members and supporters. All our cycling policies are evidence-based and we actively seek out information and best practice from other places in the UK and around the world.

EMPOWERING: We support others to use their local knowledge to speak and work for active travel changes in their communities. We work in partnership with others to co-create practical solutions that gain political and public support.

SUCCESSFUL: We deliver effective campaigns which achieve change through the combined strength of our staff and volunteer teams. We prioritise the projects where we will have the most impact, helping more people to cycle and unlocking progress which will then benefit future campaigns.

Equality, diversity and inclusion policy

Camcycle believes that diverse voices are important for creating transformational change in the Cambridge region. We actively encourage applicants from diverse backgrounds especially from ethnically diverse, LGBTQ+ and disabled communities as well as those with lived experience of tackling inequalities. In compliance with the Equality Act 2010, we will seek to make reasonable adjustments to overcome barriers to employment caused by disability and/or neurodiversity, and encourage applications from these candidates. We guarantee to offer an interview to those with a disability who meet the minimum criteria.

There are various ways we can adjust your interview or application process to incorporate your needs: please let us know as part of your application or by emailing [email protected].

Note that applicants with criminal records are welcome to apply for roles at Camcycle. Advice and guidance on disclosing a criminal record can be obtained from Unlock.

Our expectation, in line with our vision and charitable objectives, is that the role holder would travel by cycle locally and by public transport for longer distances for the majority of their work journeys. Therefore we are keen to know if there would be any barriers for you that might prevent this and ways we could enable more sustainable journeys e.g. via paid cycle training.
