About us

Who we are

Care after Combat is a UK charity supporting veterans in the justice system.

For more than a decade, we have worked alongside veterans in custody and in the community, helping them access practical, consistent and person-centred support. Our work includes Project Phoenix, our volunteer mentoring programme, and our contribution to Op NOVA, delivered in partnership with other organisations across England.

We understand that veterans can face complex challenges when they come into contact with the justice system. Our role is to provide trusted support, build positive relationships and help people move forward.

We are a small, committed charity with a national reach. Our headquarters are in Newark, Nottinghamshire, with staff and volunteers working across the country.

Our culture and values

We are a practical, supportive and mission-focused organisation.

Our culture is built around trust, integrity, consistency, empathy and teamwork. We value people who take responsibility, communicate openly, work collaboratively and remain focused on achieving the best possible outcomes for the veterans we support.

As a relatively small charity, people are expected to contribute beyond narrow job boundaries, share ideas and support colleagues across different functions. We aim to combine the professionalism and accountability expected of a national organisation with the accessibility and personal approach of a close-knit team.

We want our staff and volunteers to feel respected, supported and able to contribute their experience and expertise. We encourage constructive challenge, continuous improvement and a willingness to learn.

Above all, we expect everyone representing Care after Combat to act with integrity and to treat colleagues, partners and beneficiaries with dignity and respect.

Equality, diversity and inclusion policy

Care after Combat is committed to providing equality of opportunity and creating an inclusive environment for our staff, volunteers, applicants and the people we support.

We welcome applications from people of all backgrounds and believe that different experiences, perspectives and skills strengthen our organisation and improve the services we provide.

We are committed to fair and transparent recruitment and employment practices and do not tolerate unlawful discrimination, harassment or victimisation.

Employment decisions are based on the requirements of the role, an individual’s skills, experience and ability to contribute to our work.

We will make reasonable adjustments for disabled applicants and employees and encourage candidates to tell us about any support they may need during the recruitment process.

Our commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion extends beyond recruitment. We aim to create a working environment where everyone is treated fairly, with dignity and respect, and has the opportunity to contribute, develop and succeed.
