About us

Who we are

Our charity was founded in 1863, towards the end of the industrial revolution and in the aftermath of a period of unprecedented growth in Leeds. We were founded and continue to be run on Christian principles, but our services are available to all. We care for people of all faiths or no faith at all, and our staff are not required to share our founding beliefs.

Catholic Care has great concern for those who have particular needs, whether temporary or long-term, at any stage of life. Responding to this concern, we provide a very high standard of support and care through a wide range of residential and community-based services.

Our charity has over 200 full- and part-time staff and volunteers in a huge range of jobs and careers right across the Leeds Diocese. We’re very proud of our employment record, not least because our staff retention is so high.

Our culture and values

Our Christian ethos lies behind our pursuit of social justice for those who cannot achieve it for themselves. We will seek a better life for anyone in need, regardless of their faith background and even if they are of no faith at all.

In everything we do, we strive to show how the teachings of Christian love, charity and justice can shape the way we live together. We aim to achieve this by taking the caring church into the community and offering practical services and support for anyone who is disadvantaged, vulnerable or marginalised, regardless of their faith.

Equality, diversity and inclusion policy

Catholic Care believes that everyone has the right to fair and equal treatment, which means that everyone should have the same chance to do what they can.

Catholic Care is committed to equality, diversity, community cohesion and inclusiveness.

Catholic Care strives to be an equal opportunities employer and to be non-discriminatory and inclusive in all its practices and services.

Catholic Care is an equal opportunities employer and will not discriminate on any ground, particularly age, gender, gender re-assignment, race, religion, sexuality, disability or cultural or ethnic background.
