Chatham Mariitme Trust was formed in 1997 to take on the long-term management and maintenance responsibilities of the Chatham Maritime Estate. The master planning for the site envisaged a high quality mixed use development, with residential development on St. Mary's Island (north of the two dock basins) and commercial premises on the South Maritime Estate. There has been significant regeneration with the commercial and university developments south of the basins, the development of the leisure facilities at Dickens World and the retail outlets at the Dockside Outlet Centre and residential development on South Maritime.
Our main focus is to ensure that the areas for which we are responsible are well maintained but we also have a wider role to contribute to the on-going successful regeneration of Chatham Maritime. In order to deliver this vision the Trust has adopted five strategic objectives:
- to ensure that the estate is maintained to a high level
- to deliver services which represent value for money
- to act as a key partner in Chatham Maritime
- to fully engage with local communities
- to ensure that the Trust is financially sustainable
