About us
Who we are
CHEER's mission is to support older people with a number of services designed to reduce loneliness, isolation and financial hardship. CHEER’s work helps remove those barriers, offering not just support, but promoting health, well-being and independence.
Our services include social events, befriending, benefits advice and practical guidance — all designed to improve the daily lives of people in Elmbridge. We also run a Parkinson’s group, a dedicated service for those living with Parkinson’s and their carers.
The support we offer is life-changing for many, helping them to rediscover friendship, purpose and a sense of belonging.
Our culture and values
CHEER has been serving Elmbridge’s older community and changing lives for over 70 years. Originating from the Esher and District Old People’s Welfare Council, CHEER become a charitable company in 2010 and is dedicated to promoting the health, well-being and independence of older people across Elmbridge.
Our team of wonderful staff and volunteers deliver services that help reduce loneliness, isolation and financial hardship among older people in Elmbridge. Our vision is to create a community where every older person feels happy, supported and independent.
We’re proud of the difference our team and volunteers make every day. Together, they bring dedication, experience, and care to everything we do – from supporting our clients to strengthening the communities around us. Their hard work and commitment ensure we can continue delivering meaningful support where it’s needed most.
Equality, diversity and inclusion policy
CHEER actively supports diversity and inclusion to ensure that everyone is valued and treated with respect. We recognise that every person is an individual with different needs, preferences and abilities and we aim to reflect this diversity in everything we do, including making services inclusive and accessible to children with cancer or a life-challenging condition in all areas that we operate in, and attracting and retaining a diverse workforce. We believe that harnessing different life experiences, attributes and contributions from employees, volunteers and service users will make CHEER a more effective and inclusive organisation and a better place to work.
