About us
Who we are
The Crossness Engines Trust ('CET') is an inspirational and innovative preservation and heritage charity. It was one of the first of its kind.
The 'Cathedral on the Marsh' is home to the immense Victorian beam engines installed in the 1860s by renowned civil engineer, Sir Joseph Bazalgette. His pioneering work led directly to the health and sanitation improvements we enjoy to this day.
Since formation, the Trust's volunteers have restored a gigantic beam engine to full steam operation. Our restoration and preservation work continues. We're where we are today because of the work of enthusiasts, volunteers and philanthropic supporters.
Our culture and values
Whether you join us as staff, volunteer or curious visitor, we look forward to welcoming you to this precious piece of our heritage. Our aim is to inspire, inform and educate and strongly encourage our local and wider community to get involved.
Equality, diversity and inclusion policy
The Crossness Engines Trust’s Equity, Diversity and Inclusivity Policy is fully supported by the Board and communicated to all volunteers and staff. All Trustees, Committee members, Team Leaders and other senior staff are responsible for implementing the policy.
