About us
Who we are
Devon & Cornwall Food Action (DCFA) is a volunteer-led charity working across the South West to reduce food waste and support families facing food insecurity.
We collect surplus food from supermarkets, growers and local businesses and redistribute it to communities across Devon and Cornwall—turning food that would otherwise go to waste into weekly shopping for families who need it most.
Our work is practical, immediate and community-driven. A rescued pallet of food today can become meals for families tomorrow.
We are entirely volunteer-run, with no staff costs, meaning every person who joins us plays a direct role in keeping the organisation running—from logistics and operations to fundraising and administration.
Everything we do is built on a simple idea:
good food should not go to waste, and no one should go without it.
Our culture and values
At DCFA, our culture is shaped by the people who give their time to make things happen. We are a supportive, down-to-earth and purpose-driven organisation where everyone’s contribution matters.
We value:
- Community – we work together to support local people and strengthen local connections
- Practical action – we focus on doing things that make an immediate, visible difference
- Inclusivity – we welcome people from all backgrounds and experiences
- Flexibility – we understand that people have different commitments and offer roles that fit around life
- Respect and teamwork – we support one another and work collaboratively
Whether someone joins for a few hours a week or takes on a more regular role, they are part of a team working towards a shared purpose.
Equality, diversity and inclusion policy
Devon & Cornwall Food Action is committed to creating an inclusive and welcoming environment for everyone.
We believe that volunteering and working with us should be accessible regardless of age, background, disability, gender identity, ethnicity, religion, or personal circumstances.
We actively encourage applications from individuals from all parts of the community and aim to remove barriers wherever possible.
Our approach includes:
- Welcoming people with different levels of experience
- Offering flexible roles to suit different needs
- Providing support and training where needed
- Treating everyone with dignity, fairness and respect
We are committed to reflecting the communities we serve and ensuring that everyone feels valued and able to contribute.
