About us
Who we are
Durham City Youth Project (DCYP) is an independent registered charity that has been supporting children and young people across County Durham since 1933. We are committed to helping young people overcome challenges, improve their emotional wellbeing and realise their full potential. Through our youth work, counselling, sexual health education and outreach programmes, we provide safe, welcoming and inclusive services where young people feel listened to, valued and supported. We work collaboratively with the local authority, community organisations, funders, local universities, colleges, schools and health professionals to ensure that children and young people can access high-quality support when they need it most. We aim to empower young people to build resilience, develop confidence and make positive choices that enable them to thrive now and in the future.
Our culture and values
At Durham City Youth Project, young people are at the heart of everything we do. We are committed to creating a compassionate, inclusive and supportive environment where everyone is treated with dignity and respect. Our culture is built on kindness, integrity, collaboration and professionalism, recognising that positive relationships are fundamental to achieving meaningful outcomes for young people. We value the knowledge and experience of our staff, trustees and volunteers, encouraging continuous learning, reflective practice and innovation. Working together as a team and alongside our partners, we strive to provide the highest standards of service while fostering a workplace where individuals feel valued, supported and empowered to make a positive difference.
Equality, diversity and inclusion policy
Durham City Youth Project is committed to promoting equality, embracing diversity and fostering an inclusive workplace where everyone is treated fairly and with respect. We believe that a diverse workforce strengthens our organisation and enables us to better understand and meet the needs of the communities we serve. We are committed to providing equal opportunities in recruitment, training, development and career progression, ensuring that employment decisions are based on merit, skills and experience. We have zero tolerance for discrimination, harassment, bullying or victimisation and are committed to complying with the Equality Act 2010. We actively encourage applications from people of all backgrounds and are committed to making reasonable adjustments to ensure that everyone has the opportunity to contribute, succeed and feel a genuine sense of belonging within our organisation.
