About us
Who we are
The Fair Credit Charity was established more than a decade ago to help people who are poorly served by mainstream financial services.
We are the sole owner of Fair for You, a Community Interest Company (CIC) who is an award winning responsible lender which has now supported more than 100,000 families across the UK.
The Fair Credit Charity speaks out on the impact of high-cost lending to low-income households, and campaigns on the issues of poverty and the unfairness of the lending and credit system in the UK.
We take action both independently and in partnership, to help create a fairer financial environment for financially excluded people and we identify barriers to financial inclusion and work with others for their removal – particularly within the credit market.
Our purpose is to influence the financial, legislative and regulatory landscape to help create an ethical and responsible lending environment in which financially excluded people are better served.
We want to build a future where everyone has access to fair credit – helping to alleviate and eradicate poverty and fostering a society built on trust, integrity, and positive social impact.
Using our knowledge and established experience of creating inclusive and ethical financial services, our Mission is to build an environment to enable all businesses serving financially excluded people to thrive.
Our culture and values
The Fair Credit Charity oversees and supports Fair for You Enterprise CIC in its work as a lender to financially vulnerable people and families and they operate under five guiding values:
Trust - We trust our colleagues to do the right thing for our customers just as our customers trust us to help them when life happens.
Partnership - We actively seek to work in partnership with our customers, with each other and with our retailers and commercial partners.
Fairness - We are an impartial organisation which treats everyone with fairness regardless of their financial situation. Similarly, we would never discriminate on the basis of people’s age, disability, gender/ gender reassignment, marriage/ civil partnership, pregnancy/ maternity, race, religion or belief, sex, or sexual orientation.
Integrity - We strive to demonstrate integrity in everything we do. Being a social lender requires strong ethical principles. We can be trusted to do the right thing for our customers.
Openness - We say what we do and do what we say, and we will always treat each other and our customers with honesty and openness.
