About us
Who we are
The Featherstone Rovers Foundation is the official charity of Featherstone Rovers RLFC, working at the heart of a former mining town facing significant social and economic challenges. As a disadvantaged area, many in our community experience barriers including poor health, low income, social isolation, and limited access to opportunities. Our mission is to address these issues head-on by using the power of sport, education, and community engagement to open minds and change lives.
We deliver a wide range of programmes that promote physical and mental wellbeing, encourage lifelong learning, and build stronger, more connected communities. Each year, we support over 20,000 people across the Wakefield District through health and wellbeing sessions, family engagement activities, inclusive sports, and youth development programmes. Our initiatives include digital skills groups like ‘IT & Biscuits’, social events such as ‘Feel Good in Featherstone’, and inclusive sessions including Learning Disability Rugby League and ‘Back Onside’ fitness classes.
We’re passionate about creating opportunities for everyone, regardless of age, ability, or background—to thrive. Through projects like ‘Fev Futures’ and ‘Road to Rugby’, we help young people build confidence, resilience, and a sense of belonging. At the core of everything we do is a commitment to breaking down barriers and giving people the tools they need to lead healthier, happier lives.

Our culture and values
At the Featherstone Rovers Foundation, our culture is driven by a deep-rooted commitment to our community and a strong set of core values that guide everything we do. These values reflect who we are, how we work, and the positive impact we strive to make every day.
We live and work by four key principles, each aligned with our overall aim of improving lives through sport, education, and engagement:
-
Inclusive – We are here for everyone. We actively promote equality, celebrate diversity, and ensure that all our programmes are accessible and welcoming to people of all ages, backgrounds, and abilities.
-
Inspire – We believe in the power of inspiration. Through our projects, we aim to spark confidence, motivation, and ambition, empowering individuals and communities to make positive, lasting changes.
-
Innovation – We are passionate about responding to our community’s evolving needs. By listening, adapting, and thinking creatively, we continually develop new and effective ways to support those we serve, even in the face of challenges.
-
Integrity – We operate with honesty, transparency, and respect. As a trusted and accountable charity, we are committed to doing the right thing for our community, our partners, and each other.
These values shape our culture, one of teamwork, compassion, and purpose. They ensure that everything we do is focused on making a real difference in the lives of the people we support.
Equality, diversity and inclusion policy
At the Featherstone Rovers Foundation, equality, diversity and inclusion (EDI) are central to our mission and embedded in every aspect of our work. We are committed to creating a safe, welcoming, and respectful environment where everyone -regardless of age, gender, ethnicity, disability, sexual orientation, religion, or background, has the opportunity to participate, contribute, and thrive.
Our Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Policy underpins our approach to programme delivery, recruitment, partnerships, and day-to-day operations. We actively challenge discrimination and inequality, and we take proactive steps to break down barriers that prevent individuals from accessing the support and opportunities they deserve.
We believe diversity strengthens our organisation and our community. By valuing different perspectives and experiences, we are better equipped to understand and meet the needs of the people we serve. Inclusion is not just a goal it is a continuous commitment to learning, adapting, and improving the way we work.
All staff, volunteers, and partners are expected to uphold our EDI principles and receive appropriate training to support this. We regularly review our policies and practices to ensure they remain effective and relevant, and we welcome feedback from our community to help shape a more inclusive future.
Our ambition is to be a leading example of how sport and community engagement can drive meaningful social change, where everyone feels valued, empowered, and able to reach their full potential.
