About us
Who we are
The Government of South Georgia & the South Sandwich Islands (GSGSSI) is the governing body for one of the world’s most remote UK Overseas Territories, located in the South Atlantic Ocean. We are responsible for the protection, sustainable management, and stewardship of the islands' unique environment, which includes vast marine ecosystems, abundant wildlife, and historic whaling stations.
Our work spans conservation, fisheries licensing, tourism regulation, heritage protection, and governance. Operating from our main office in Stanley, Falkland Islands, and working closely with partners including the British Antarctic Survey, we lead a values-driven programme grounded in environmental responsibility and global best practice.
Our culture and values
Our team is small, committed, and international — bound by a shared passion for protecting one of the last great wildernesses on Earth. We are values-led in everything we do, guided by environmental protection, evidence-based decision-making, sustainability, and openness.
We champion collaboration, support innovation, and take pride in working with integrity, curiosity, and respect. Whether based in the Falklands, the UK, or deployed to South Georgia, we support each other in delivering ambitious outcomes for the Territory and its global importance.
Equality, diversity and inclusion policy
GSGSSI is committed to building a diverse, inclusive, and supportive workplace where everyone can thrive. We welcome applications from individuals of all backgrounds and nationalities (subject to entry eligibility) and actively seek to promote equality and remove barriers to participation wherever they exist.
We recruit based on merit, potential, and alignment with our values. We strive to create a working environment that is inclusive, respectful, and free from discrimination. We are an equal opportunities employer and strongly encourage applications from underrepresented groups.
