About us
Who we are
Hornsey Foodbank is an independent, community-led project based in North London. It started in summer 2020 as a response to Covid-19 and grew out of the mutual aid groups that set up at the time to support local communities. We work on the principle that any of us may need help at some stage in our lives, and we’re here – as neighbours helping neighbours – to offer support. We provide food (including fresh fruit and vegetables) and other essentials. The foodbank is visited by nearly 400 guests a week, collecting for between 1000 and 1300 people. A large and dedicated team of volunteers help with set up, service and many other tasks behind the scenes. The foodbank became a charity in 2023 and is steered by a board of trustees.
Equality, diversity and inclusion policy
Hornsey Foodbank is committed to providing a safe, welcoming, and inclusive environment where everyone involved with the foodbank is treated with respect, dignity, and equality. This policy applies to all staff, volunteers, trustees, clients, and anyone who interacts with Hornsey Foodbank.
We believe that all people should be treated equally and fairly, regardless of their personal status, including but not limited to: gender, gender reassignment, race, nationality, ethnic origin, marital status, pregnancy, disability, sexual orientation, age, religion, or belief.
We are committed to:
-
Promoting equality of opportunity and ensuring all people are treated with respect.
-
Creating an environment that is free from discrimination, bullying, and harassment.
-
Valuing diversity in our foodbank, welcoming people from all backgrounds, and ensuring that no one is treated less favourably for any reason.
