About us
Who we are
At Horsham Matters, we believe no one should have to choose between heating their home, feeding their family, or supporting their wellbeing. We are a local charity dedicated to helping people in crisis across the Horsham District, providing essential services such as foodbanks, energy support, benefit checks and a range of community projects.
Founded in 2007, we have grown to become a trusted part of the local community, working in partnership with other organisations, volunteers, and supporters to address the root causes of poverty and social isolation. We are committed to making a meaningful difference, supporting people with compassion and respect, and empowering them to build brighter futures.
Our team is passionate, innovative, and community-focused, and we are always looking for people who share our values to join us in creating a fairer, more caring community for all.
Our culture and values
At Horsham Matters, we are driven by a deep commitment to social justice, community care, and practical action. Our culture is shaped by compassion, respect, and a belief that everyone deserves dignity, hope, and opportunity.
What We Believe:
-
Everyone matters. We treat everyone with kindness, empathy, and respect, recognising the unique challenges they face.
-
Community is everything. We are part of the community we serve, working collaboratively and listening to those we support.
-
Hope is powerful. We believe that positive change is possible for every person, and we work alongside individuals to help them build a brighter future.
How We Work:
-
People-first approach. We prioritise the needs of those we serve, ensuring they are at the heart of everything we do.
-
Team spirit. We value teamwork, trust, and a willingness to go the extra mile. We support and challenge each other to learn, grow, and make a real difference.
-
Innovation and resilience. We are adaptable and open to new ideas, finding creative ways to address the needs of our community.
-
Integrity and transparency. We are accountable for our actions, using our resources wisely and always acting in the best interests of those we serve.
-
Inclusion and equality. We are committed to creating a welcoming and accessible environment where everyone feels they belong and can contribute.
By living these values every day, we aim to build a stronger, more resilient community—one where no one is left behind.
Equality, diversity and inclusion policy
At Horsham Matters, we are committed to creating a diverse, inclusive, and equitable environment for everyone—our staff, volunteers, and the communities we serve. We believe that by valuing difference and promoting fairness, we strengthen our organisation and the impact we make in people’s lives.
Our Commitment:
-
Fairness for all. We are committed to ensuring that no individual is treated less favourably because of their age, gender, race, disability, sexual orientation, religion, or any other protected characteristic.
-
Challenging discrimination. We actively challenge discrimination and prejudice wherever we encounter it, within our organisation and in the wider community.
-
Inclusive culture. We aim to create an inclusive culture where everyone feels welcome, heard, and respected. We encourage open dialogue, learning, and mutual support across our teams.
-
Recruitment and progression. We ensure our recruitment, selection, and progression processes are free from bias and provide equal opportunities for all candidates, based solely on their skills, experience, and potential.
-
Continuous improvement. We regularly review our practices, provide training and development, and seek feedback to improve our understanding of equality, diversity, and inclusion.
We know that our work is stronger when we reflect the diversity of the communities we serve, and we are committed to being a fair, open, and welcoming organisation for all.
