About us

Who we are

The Hospital Broadcasting Association (HBA), formally known as the National Association of Hospital Broadcasting Organisations (NAHBO), is the national charity for hospital, health and wellbeing broadcasting in the UK.

We support, represent and develop a network of around 140 member organisations, most of which are volunteer-run hospital radio stations. Our members bring together thousands of volunteers from all backgrounds and walks of life who are committed to making a positive difference through broadcasting.

As a volunteer-led organisation ourselves, we provide training, guidance, networking opportunities and sector representation, helping members share best practice, meet new challenges and thrive in a changing environment.

Working together, our members help deliver entertainment, information, companionship and a sense of connection to patients, listeners and communities across the UK.

Membership is open to both organisations and individuals who share our passion for hospital, health and wellbeing broadcasting.

Our culture and values

The HBA is built on collaboration, volunteering and shared experience. We bring people together from across the hospital, health and wellbeing broadcasting sector to share knowledge, support one another and develop new ideas. Through training, guidance, advice, resources and our annual conference, we help member stations build skills, overcome challenges and make the most of new opportunities. We also represent and champion the sector, working with regulators, public bodies, healthcare organisations and other stakeholders on issues that matter to our members. We value teamwork, respect and inclusion, and work collectively to help member stations thrive and continue serving their listeners and communities.

Equality, diversity and inclusion policy

We are committed to creating an inclusive organisation where everyone is treated with fairness, dignity and respect. We welcome applications from people of all backgrounds, experiences and identities, and particularly encourage applications from groups that are currently underrepresented within our organisation.

We are committed to providing an accessible recruitment process and will make reasonable adjustments where needed. Applicants will be considered on their skills, experience and potential, regardless of age, disability, sex, gender reassignment, sexual orientation, pregnancy and maternity, race, religion or belief, marriage or civil partnership status, or any other protected characteristic
