About us
Who we are
Ignition Brewery employs and trains people with learning disabilities to brew and serve delicious beer. We're a social enterprise, entirely owned and operated by a local charity, Brighter Horizons.
Under the leadership of our Head Brewer, our team brews and serves around 5000L of beer a year. We use a manual kit which enables our team to maximise their learning and we only ever bottle by hand to ensure we can offer more shifts to our team. Our Taproom, which is attached to our Brewery, is open 4 nights a week regularly hosts live music, quiz nights, tastings and more. Our team run the bar and develop customer service and hospitality skills in the process.
Our aim is that, in developing the skills and work-readiness of our team members, we'll move them into longer term, sustainable employment which will enable them to lead more independent lives.
Our culture and values
We believe that everyone has the right to a full and active life and that being a paid a fair wage for a fair shift can do wonders for our self-worth. Having a job helps us to be more independent, it builds our self-confidence and develops skills which we find useful in all aspects of life.
We put our people first and everyone who works for us is paid at least the London Living Wage.
Astonishingly, only 1 out of every 20 adults with a learning disability in the UK is in paid employment. We don’t think that’s right and so all of our bar staff and assistant brewers are neurodiverse and/or have a learning disability. It’s what we’ve always done, ever since our first brew in 2015 ) and what we’ll keep on doing with every beer that we serve. Because things need to change.
Equality, diversity and inclusion policy
Ignition is an equal opportunity employer. We value a diverse workforce and an inclusive culture. We encourage applications from all qualified individuals without regard to race, colour, religion, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, age, national origin, marital status, disability, and veteran status.
