About us
Who we are
ICET supports looked-after young people, specifically in the London Borough of Camden, to help them access and benefit from higher education. Our dedicated Education Navigator works directly with the young people finding opportunities to encourage them with realistic prospects of getting into university. For example by visits to universities, additional tutoring, attending a summer school, or help to buy a laptop. Whatever is needed to increase their prospects to access university or, alternative further education such as a degree apprenticeship. We then support them through their time in higher education and afterwards to increase their career opportunities.
This project is being researched by a team from the University of Birmingham so that we can properly understand the difference it makes. Our goal is to influence policy in this area so that outcomes are nationally improved.
We are also considering other projects around the overall theme of increasing aspiration and opportunity for higher education for this under-represented group.
Our culture and values
We believe passionately that education is a huge element of social mobility, and we want to improve the life chances of these young people. One of the biggest single indicators a young person will not achieve university level education, or, if they do manage to achieve this, they will not finish the course, is if they have been in the care system. We are working with other charities in this area to transform the opportunities for looked-after children so that they have a real chance of accessing university, completing their degree, and obtaining a suitable job thereafter.
Equality, diversity and inclusion policy
We welcome applicants regardless of sex, race, disability, age, sexual orientation, gender identity and expression, religion or belief, marital or social status. The only stipulation is that you must meet the Charity Commission’s eligibility criteria for the appointment of trustees.
