About us

Who we are

The Latin American Women’s Rights Service (LAWRS) is a human rights, feminist organisation run by and for Latin American women in the UK. We support Latin American women and work with sister organisations in the women, anti-trafficking, immigration and racial justice sectors, as well as networks and campaigns, to tackle the vulnerabilities faced by migrant women, who are affected by intersectional layers of discrimination.

We do this through direct support through casework for women experiencing gender-based violence, and exploitation, through counselling and emotional support, through advice on benefits, employment rights, family law, housing and immigration, workshops, and other integration activities. All our services are free and in Spanish and Portuguese. Additionally, we enact social change through our policy and advocacy work on issues that affect migrant women which is informed by frontline experience of Latin American women in the UK.

Our culture and values

- Feminist and human rights based. We advocate for a system in which all migrant and refugee women can access their fundamental human rights.

- We're a by-and-for organisation, by Latin American women for Latin American women.

- We uphold equality and social justice, opposing all forms of discrimination in society and our workplace.

- We acknowledge intersectionality whereas more women are more affected by others due to different forms of discrimination and actively work to counteract this.

- We believe in collaboration, partnerships, transparency and value openness.

- We centre our community's voices by having our policy work be informed by the experiences of women we support.

Equality, diversity and inclusion policy

LAWRS seek to recruit the best candidate for the job based on merit and adheres to the UK Equality Act 2010. We're committed to taking ‘Positive Action’ and to a safe and inclusive working culture that embraces and celebrates diversity.

Reasonable adjustments will be made at all stages of the recruitment process to accommodate the particular needs of any person, particularly those who have notified us that they have a disability within the meaning of the Equality Act 2010.

We will treat all candidates fairly, equitably and efficiently, with respect, courtesy and dignity, aiming to ensure that the candidate experience is positive, irrespective of the outcome.
