About us
Who we are
Headway Leicester supports adults living in Leicestershire, Leicester and Rutland who have experienced an acquired or traumatic brain injury (ABI/TBI), including injuries caused by stroke, road traffic collisions, falls, cardiac arrest, illness and other trauma.
Established in 1990, we have over 30 years’ experience of supporting people affected by brain injury. We provide specialist, person-centred services designed to help individuals rebuild their lives, develop confidence and independence, and achieve their personal goals.
Our services include a specialist day service, community outreach support, community-based activities and groups, information and advice, hospital liaison and support for families and carers. We work closely with health and social care professionals and other organisations to provide coordinated support throughout an individual's recovery journey.
Brain injury can affect every aspect of a person's life, including memory, communication, mobility, behaviour, relationships, confidence and emotional wellbeing. At Headway, we recognise that every brain injury and every person's circumstances are different. Our approach therefore focuses on the individual—their strengths, choices, aspirations and what is important to them.
Through meaningful activities, rehabilitation-focused support, social opportunities and community involvement, we encourage people to develop skills, increase independence, build relationships and improve their overall quality of life.
Our culture and values
Our work is underpinned by a person-centred, enabling approach. We recognise that every brain injury is different and work alongside individuals to identify their strengths, needs, aspirations and personal goals. Rather than focusing solely on disability or what a person cannot do, we encourage individuals to develop and regain skills, increase confidence, make informed choices and participate meaningfully in their community.
Equality, diversity and inclusion policy
Our approach is based on the principles of equality, diversity and inclusion and is reflected throughout recruitment, employment, training, development and day-to-day working practices. Decisions relating to recruitment, progression, training and employment are based on an individual's skills, experience, performance and ability to fulfil the requirements of their role.
