About us
Who we are
We were established in 2016 to provide support for people affected by dementia, other memory problems, and isolation. We run regular social support cafes providing entertainment, information, support and socialisation for individuals, their families and carers. Since we began we have steadily increased our membership (firstly with our Sowerby Bridge cafe and, a year later, our Halifax cafe). We supplement our cafe operations with regular social outings and events for our members.
Our culture and values
We are all about helping people to live well with dementia.
We are certainly dementia-friendly but definitely not dementia-only.
Our social support cafes and events are open to anybody who wishes to attend.
Everything we do is based upon the concepts of welcome, support and inclusion.
Equality, diversity and inclusion policy
Memory Lane Cafe Calderdale (MLCC) is a dementia-friendly organisation which is designed to support people affected in any way by dementia or memory loss. However, the cafe is open to anybody who wishes to attend and we provide a range of events and activities to suit the interests and meet the needs of a wide variety of people. We aim to eliminate the stigma of dementia through an atmosphere of respect and care for each other.
Furthermore, we aim to treat every participant equally, regardless of their age, disability, gender reassignment, marriage or civil partnership, pregnancy or maternity, race, religion or belief, sex, or sexual orientation
Every participant at MLCC should be made to feel equally welcome and included.Sexist, racist, homophobic, transphobic or otherwise offensive and inflammatory remarks and behaviour are not acceptable. If anyone feels that they have been discriminated against, or harassed, at MLCC then they are encouraged to raise the issues through a signposted and transparent process.
