About us

Who we are

Mortlake Community Association (MCA) is a small, registered charity which runs a community programme to enhance the lives of residents living in the London Borough of Richmond – mainly Mortlake, Barnes and East Sheen.  We provide social, educational and recreational activities and our core objectives are combatting isolation and loneliness, improving people’s physical and mental health and promoting greener, healthier and culturally enriched lifestyles. Our overall aim is to sustainably improve health and wellbeing in Mortlake and in nearby communities.

Our culture and values

MCA is a place of friendship, inclusion, and community. Our values  are:

Collaborative - We believe in working together, listening closely, and building partnerships that reflect the strengths of our communities.

Inclusive - We offer something for all ages and interests—from balance and stretch classes, embroidery workshops, and singing groups, to gardening, chess, knitting, and local history. People come to learn, relax, connect, and be part of something meaningful.

Responsive - We adapt as our community evolves, shaping our programs to tackle challenges like social isolation and to promote health and wellbeing within our community.

Equality, diversity and inclusion policy

Mortlake Community Association (MCA) is fully committed to equality, diversity and inclusion in all aspects of our operations. We welcome all service users, staff and volunteers regardless of age, disability, sex, gender reassignment, marriage and civil partnership, pregnancy, maternity, race, (which includes colour, nationality and ethnic or national origins), sexual orientation, religion or belief as set out in the Equality Act.

Our Trustees and staff recognise that equality, diversity, and inclusion demand a strong commitment and concerted action to build an inclusive environment where opportunities are open to all, diversity is valued, and where everybody can reach their full potential without fear of harassment, prejudice or discrimination.  Every person within MCA has a responsibility for ensuring an inclusive environment where all members of our community feel welcome and are able to be themselves.

Our work to embed equality, diversity and inclusion is anchored in the duties as applied to the protected characteristics set out in the Equality Act 2010 that require us to have due regard to:

  • Eliminate unlawful discrimination, harassment and victimisation and other conduct prohibited by the Act.

  • Advance equality of opportunity between people who share a protected characteristic and those who do not.

  • Foster good relations between people who share a protected characteristic and those who do not.

We believe that all staff and volunteers, including those who may be working on behalf of the charity, should treat others with courtesy, respect and consideration – and conduct themselves professionally when interacting with service users and wider members of the community.  Unacceptable behaviour including bullying, harassment and victimisation or discrimination – including but not limited to the protected characteristics covered by the Equality Act 2010 – will not be tolerated and any allegations will be taken seriously and dealt with appropriately.
