About us
Who we are
Founded in 2011 by composer Kate Whitley and conductor Christopher Stark, The Multi-Story Orchestra has revolutionised the orchestral concert experience by staging performances in unconventional venues, notably Multi-Story car parks. Their groundbreaking approach has garnered widespread acclaim, highlighted by the historic 2016 BBC Proms broadcast from a car park—a milestone in classical music accessibility and inclusivity. Since then, The Multi-Story Orchestra has toured extensively, captivating audiences across the UK, from Gloucester to Ipswich, Birmingham to Portsmouth. Beyond their remarkable performances, The Multi-Story Orchestra is committed to fostering community engagement and inclusivity. Through collaborations with local choirs and instrumentalists, they create poignant musical experiences that celebrate diverse voices and perspectives – and always champion their decade long relationship with local communities in South East London, where they are based.
