New Horizon Youth Centre

Who we are

From humble beginnings in a church basement in Soho over half a century ago, to a now 50-strong multidisciplinary team, we have been on the frontline, supporting young Londoners facing homelessness.

We deliver high quality, trauma-informed services for any young person, 16-24, who wants support. Our services are focused on improving their Housing, Health, Safety and Life Skills. We also use our expertise and learning to change things in the wider system.

HOUSING

Finding young people somewhere safe to stay in the short term while we find them somewhere to call home.

LIFE SKILLS

Training and skills to maintain a home and lead a positive life

HEALTH

Supporting young people to improve their emotional, sexual, and physical health and wellbeing

SAFETY

Supporting young people sleeping rough or in unsafe situations. We also work with young people who are currently in prison, on probation, or going through the court system.

Our culture and values

For over half a century, we’ve been working with the young Londoners who have been pushed into homelessness or danger.

We were founded in 1967 by Lord Longford to address the escalating crisis of young Londoners caught up in homelessness, drug use or the criminal justice system. One of our first Directors was Jon Snow, who continued to be Chair of our Board for 20 years alongside his successful journalism career. Jon, to this day, remains a Patron.

Although we’ve changed a lot over the years, New Horizon today continues to work with young people who need the most support.

During those five decades the centre has continued to provide a safe space for young people experiencing homelessness in the capital, whether that was in our original base in Covent Garden or through our existing home in Kings Cross.

Today, our work is as necessary as ever. In response to this we have steadily grown from a team of 3 when the centre first opened to a now diverse and multi-disciplined team of over 50, delivering a much wider range of services. If housing is the most common reason for young people to come to New Horizon, it’s all of our other holistic services that brings them back, offering the stability, safety and support they need to start getting their lives back on track.
