About us

Who we are

No Guard Alone is a charitable organisation in formation, dedicated to the mental health and wellbeing of security professionals across the United Kingdom.

Security guards routinely face lone working, night shifts, verbal and physical aggression, and a workplace culture that discourages talking about mental health. Despite being on the front line of public safety, they have no dedicated mental health infrastructure, unlike the police, fire service, and military.

We are in the early stages of building that infrastructure. Our plans include a peer-supported helpline staffed by trained listeners who understand the realities of security work, alongside wellbeing resources tailored specifically to guards. In the meantime, we have developed a mental health guide to provide immediate, practical support to workers while our services are being built.

No Guard Alone is a charitable company limited by guarantee, currently working towards Charity Commission registration. Our founder, David Fullerton, brings direct experience of the security industry and is working with sector bodies including the International Professional Security Association (IPSA) to build the organisation on strong foundations.

We are at the beginning, but the need is urgent and the mission is clear: no security guard should ever face a crisis alone.

Our culture and values

No Guard Alone was founded on the belief that every security professional deserves access to mental health support that understands their world. Our culture reflects that belief in everything we do.

Peer understanding. We believe support works best when it comes from people who get it. Security work is unlike most other jobs, and we will always prioritise the voices of those with lived experience of the industry in how we design and deliver our services.

No guard left behind. The security sector is fragmented, with many workers employed through subcontractors on zero-hours or variable shift arrangements, often without access to employee benefits. We are committed to reaching those workers, not just those in large, well-resourced companies.

Confidentiality. We will never share information about an individual with their employer or the SIA. Guards must be able to reach out without fear of professional consequences.

Collaboration. We work alongside industry bodies, employers, and other charities rather than in isolation. The problem is too big for any one organisation to solve alone.

Equality, diversity and inclusion policy

No Guard Alone is committed to fairness and equal treatment in everything we do, both as an employer and as a service provider. We are in the process of developing our formal policies as an organisation in formation, and equality, diversity and inclusion sits at the heart of how we intend to operate from day one.

We are committed to ensuring that no person is treated less favourably on the grounds of age, disability, gender reassignment, marriage or civil partnership, pregnancy or maternity, race, religion or belief, sex, or sexual orientation, in line with the Equality Act 2010.

The security industry is one of the most diverse workforces in the UK, yet it remains underserved by mental health provision. We recognise that barriers to seeking support are not the same for everyone. Cultural stigma, language, shift patterns, and employment status can all affect whether a worker feels able to ask for help. Our services will be designed with that diversity in mind.

As we recruit volunteers, listeners, and staff, we are committed to building a team that reflects the workforce we serve. We will advertise roles openly, assess candidates fairly, and make reasonable adjustments to ensure nobody is disadvantaged in the process.

We will review and formalise our EDI policy as part of our Charity Commission registration process, and it will be a living document that develops alongside the organisation.
