Who we are

openDemocracy is a global media platform that challenges power and inspires change through cutting-edge reporting, thoughtful analysis and democratic debate.

For 15 years our website has reported on and analysed the important global issues of our time – from wars and economic crisis, to democracy and human rights. We are currently in a period of growth (in our readership and our team), and need to build a creative and dynamic Operations team to consolidate our successes and help us fulfill our potential.

openDemocracy asks the tough questions and takes on the public interest causes many others won’t. With nearly 9 million unique visits last year across the globe, we change people’s minds – giving those fighting for their rights the agency to make their case heard and to provoke action.

We have many generous supporters and a hardworking and talented staff and board of directors. Bringing together the voices of young and old, new authors as well as seasoned professionals, our skilled team of in-house editors care about the value of argument, rather than word count or commercial worth. This creates a uniquely open and democratic space.

We believe that working at oD should be a unique and rewarding opportunity for everyone—from entry level to senior staff—and that this results from the pooled creativity, talent, and diversity of its team.
