About us
Who we are
OSH is a youth movement that helps refugees and migrants flourish in the place they call home, focusing on ages 14 to 18. Through transformative activities, we empower our members to create community and build leadership.
There are thousands of young refugees and migrants arriving in this country every year. We believe in the unbounded potential of these individuals and are driven to help them thrive.
Our residential experiences are at the start of this journey, allowing us to create a space where we can teach leadership skills and spark ideas. With the right support, our ambition is to ensure that young refugees and migrants can take control of their own lives.
Our culture and values
Our activities include:
-
Residential Programmes: We host multiple residential programmes throughout the year to allow our participants to form deeper relationships and to become a part of the OSH community. Our residentials combine informal education and creative workshops with time to relax, unwind and have fun with new friends.
-
Leadership Training Programme: We run Leadership Training Programmes every year to give our participants the chance to step up and become volunteer youth leaders. Our Programme is nationally certified and equips participants with vital leadership skills, which they can put into practice in a supported environment at our residentials.
-
Youth Hubs: OSH Youth Hubs in Bristol and London meet regularly, creating a year-round touchpoint for our community.
Our core values are at the heart of what we do:
-
Young People at the Centre - The creativity and determination of young people with refugee backgrounds is our greatest asset. We nurture individuals, create space for them to be truly themselves, and help them support each other.
-
Acting With, Not For - Staff, volunteers and participants of all backgrounds are members of OSH, creating our community together.
-
Leadership - We help young people thrive by giving them space to lead. It’s about encouragement, training, and the opportunities to test out skills that will last a lifetime.
-
Freedom and Acceptance - We learn to live together, respecting others beliefs and opinions, and building long-lasting relationships.
