Who we are

Pegasus Opera Company is an award-winning opera company with a bold mission: Harmony in Diversity.

For over 30 years, we have been opening up opera to new artists, audiences and communities, championing exceptional talent and creating opportunities for people who have historically been underrepresented within classical music.

Based in Brixton and working across London and nationally, our work spans three interconnected areas: Artistic Programming, Talent Development, and Learning & Participation.

We produce ambitious performances and new work, nurture the next generation of opera talent, and take outstanding music into schools and communities. From major artistic projects and new commissions such as Windrush to our Opera Mentoring Programme, Pegasus Talent, community choirs and work with children and young people, we believe opera should reflect the richness of contemporary Britain.

We work with leading artists and organisations across the cultural sector, building partnerships that create opportunities, reach new audiences and contribute to positive change within opera.

We are ambitious about artistic excellence and equally ambitious about impact. We want to make exceptional opera, develop exceptional people and help shape a sector in which talent can flourish regardless of background.

Pegasus was founded to address inequality and underrepresentation within opera and classical music. We have a particular history of championing artists of African, Caribbean and Asian heritage and creating opportunities for Global Majority artists whose talent has not always been adequately represented on the UK's classical stages.
