About us

Who we are

Reaching Higher is a youth charity with a Christian ethos. We teach young people the value of transferrable skills and help them discover the skills they’ve developed from their own lived experiences.

 

Our Mission: 

We are focused on serving young people and challenging them to be leaders of their own lives.

We help young people discover their limitless potential and talents from their lived experiences.​

We run in-person leadership, employability and life skills training to equip them with transferrable skills.

​​We are creating a generation of young leaders excited to re-invest in others.

 

Our Story: 

Reaching Higher was formed in 2010 with a vision to empower young people as leaders and change-makers in their community. Reaching Higher is based in South Norwood and works across the Borough of Croydon.

 

We define leadership as the opportunity for young people to have an active and informed role in the decisions that will positively impact their future. The work we do is about levelling the playing field, and to do this, we strive to unlock the leadership potential in all young people and help them harness it in the right way. 

 

Reaching Higher has always been about serving young people in their local community. We create a coaching environment where young people can engage in a wide range of activities to build their self-esteem and develop problem-solving, communication, teamwork, and leadership skills.  

 

Over half of our team are former service users, demonstrating our commitment to raising leaders. These young adults are now reinvesting in the next generation, offering the same support that Reaching Higher gave them.​

Trust - We extend trust across our teams and with the young people we engage. It is this type of trust that provides our staff, volunteers and young people with the platform to raise their confidence and sharpen their skills. We treasure and recognise that those engaging in our work trust us and believe that trust can transform lives.

 

Relational - Being relational means being present, it means being attentive to those around us and seeing everyone for who they are. We are relational because we care about and value people. We are passionate about building genuine and long-lasting relationships that will flourish and impact the wider community.

 

Youth-led - Young people have immeasurable amounts of innovative ideas and skills but can lack the experience that comes with age. At Reaching Higher we scaffold this by allowing young people to think as wildly as they can and support them to implement their own ideas in a safe and stimulating environment.

 

Innovation - We believe that innovation is the key that unlocks new value. It is thinking about what is yet to be thought of and preparing new ways to thrive in the future. Innovation provides us with the ability to make an impact and change things for the better.

 

Excellence - We believe in giving the best of ourselves in our pursuit to help change the lives of young people. We believe that obtaining a standard of excellence is a continual process and we intentionally reflect on how and why we do what we do.

 

Simplicity - We believe that less is more! Simplicity requires hard work followed by high levels of focus. Obtaining simplicity is easier said than done. Simplicity is our catalyst for growth and will ensure we remain accessible and well understood.

All staff are offered comprehensive training including protected CPD time on Mondays. Every September, we hold a 2-night staff residential.
