At Roots Academy, we’ve built a learning experience that’s changing the lives of the ummah’s future leaders, change-makers and visionaries.

Our Vision and Mission

Our Vision: A generation of young Muslims who embody and promote a God-centred way of life.

We do this by delivering structured and transformative education in the Essentials of Islam in a way that lowers barriers to access, develops a deep certainty, and inspires action.

Why Does Roots Academy Exist?

Crisis of Faith: 1 in 4 young Muslims are leaving the religion due to various factors, primarily the pervasive anti-religious content and temptations they encounter online and offline. Roots Academy exists to bridge this gap by providing a structured and transformative Islamic education that speaks directly to the needs and challenges of young Muslims today, delivered in an engaging and accessible form that removes barriers to access and provokes thought and action.

Our Teams

Roots started in the UK in 2020, and has grown steadily since. Our UK office is currently made up of the following teams:

Education: Curriculum development, instructor training, and ensuring programme quality.

Programmes: Delivering our on-site programmes, Roots Essentials online, Roots for Professionals, and more new programmes coming soon.

Digital: Developing the tools and tech that is used in the classroom - ensuring students have a modern, seamless experience while studying with Roots.

Marketing and Communications: Spreading the message, creating and sharing content about Roots classes, transformative student journeys, and the impact Roots is making.

Design: Supporting the Education, Programmes, Digital and other in-house teams with graphic design - ensuring all our content and materials are in line with Roots branding.

Fundraising: Raising vital funds to keep the work going, and to help the organisation grow.

Events: Organising and delivering all Roots Events - student retreats, internal residentials, one-day courses and other special events.

Finance: Ensuring donations are logged, and spent as intended.

People and Culture: Creating opportunities, finding the right people to fill roles, and making sure that the team is supported and provided with opportunities to progress and develop.

Governance and Legal: Making sure we are meeting our legal duties, compliance requirements, and following regulations so we can continue to do what we do, and do it well.

Opportunities to join the team

If you want to join our team and support the mission, there are numerous ways of getting involved - including regular volunteering opportunities, or volunteering for ad-hoc events. On occasion, there might be a paid opportunity available, as the team grows and develops.

Types of roles

• Volunteers: we’re a volunteer-powered organisation, united by a passion to provide transformational teaching to every single student. The majority of the team is made up of dedicated volunteers that regularly give their time for the sake of Allah - volunteering from as little as 3 hours, or up to a maximum of 12 hours per week.
• Freelancers, Consultants or Contractors: these are short-term, ad-hoc opportunities that may arise from time to time when we are seeking a technical specialist for a specific project.
• Employment opportunities: paid full-time or part-time roles are new to Roots, and we usually recruit from our current pool of volunteers, so these opportunities are rarely advertised externally. If you are interested in kick-starting your career at Roots, the best way to join is by volunteering!

We strongly encourage applications from Muslim women and Roots students or alumni that have benefitted from a Roots Class, as well as individuals that bring experience from the education sector or charity sector.
