About us
Who we are
We are a small charity supporting refugees and people seeking asylum in Rossendale, Lancashire. Our service centres arround a weekly drop-in on a Wednesday morning where we offer casework, English language support and social activities, and support people to take up opportunities available locally such as football, gym membership, voluntary work. Outside these sessions we offer some individual casework and ad hoc events. The numbers using our services is increasing rapidly.. Currently about 20 new clients register with us each montha and each week around 50 people attend the drop-in sessions. We currently have one fixed term 0.5 fte employee, but our service runs mainly through the contributions of volunteers.
Our culture and values
We believe that those who come to the UK seeking sanctuary should feel welcomed, should be able to participate in UK society and shoud be able to contribute to the best of their ability. We know that they face many barriers in reaching these goals and we aim to provide some help in addressing these.
In relation to those volunteering with us, we would like all volunteers to enjoy what they are doing, and feel supported.
Equality, diversity and inclusion policy
We are open to anyone living in or near Rossendale who is a refugee or seeking asylum. We aim to offer a service in an atmosphere of friendship, respect and care, where each person is treated equally, regardless of their race, religion or belief, gender, age, disability, gender reassignment, marriage or civil partnership, pregnancy or maternity, or sexual orientation (otherwise known as protected characteristics). We aim for each person to feel equally welcome and included at all our meetings and events.
