About us
Who we are
The Royal Medical Foundation (RMF) is a longstanding UK charity founded in 1855 by Dr John Propert to support doctors and their families facing financial hardship. Originally established to provide an asylum for medical practitioners and a school for their sons, it has evolved into a registered national charity offering practical assistance through regular grants, emergency one‑off support, and—in exceptional circumstances—help with school fees for the children of registered doctors. Today, the RMF is a Company Limited by Guarantee, managed by a board of directors and based at Epsom College, continuing its mission to provide stability and relief during times of illness, bereavement, or financial need.
Our culture and values
The Royal Medical Foundation’s culture is rooted in compassion, dignity, and support for the medical community, reflecting its founding purpose to help doctors and their families in times of hardship.
Its values centre on providing practical, respectful assistance—through regular grants, emergency financial help, and, where necessary, educational support—ensuring stability for families experiencing illness, bereavement, or financial distress.
The RMF also upholds principles of service and community, continuing the vision of its founder by prioritising care for current and future beneficiaries. Its governance structure, with a board drawn from diverse professions, reinforces a culture of responsibility, integrity, and thoughtful stewardship of charitable resources
