About us

Who we are

Rwanda Aid works in the remote south west region of Rwanda, in the districts of Rusizi and Nyamasheke, situated between the Nyungwe Forest National Park and Lake Kivu.

Rwanda Aid’s aim is to support the vulnerable and disadvantaged, especially children, helping them to develop the skills and knowledge to build a better future for themselves, their families and their community. So far in 2016, our projects have worked to improve the quality of life for over 24,000 people. Rwanda Aid was CHARITY OF THE YEAR at the South of England Agricultural Show in 2016.

Rwanda Aid is keen to promote initiative, hard work, and a sense of community. The charity works closely with the Rwandan Government, both at local and national levels.

Rwanda Aid creates innovative, pilot projects which act as models and catalysts for further development. It offers well directed and effective help through a team of Rwandan Managers, a UK CEO and volunteer UK Managers. Since 2008, these are just some examples of what Rwanda Aid has achieved:

  • Community Farming: 825 farmers have received organic and livestock farm training. They now provide better nutrition for their families and earn an income which allows them to take out health insurance and send their children to school. Each person trained is committed to training at least two others in their community.
  • Education: Over 40 classrooms have been built, benefiting in excess of 25,000 children. 18 teachers have been trained as mentors in effective teaching and learning methods, who support a further 84 teachers across 26 schools. This benefits over 5,000 students.
  • Disability: A village for children with disability has been created with 60 children on role. 25 of these children now attend their local mainstream primary school. We work in the wider community to raise awareness of disability, benefiting over 200 individuals
  • Enterprise Development: 16 cooperatives are supported in a range of businesses including welding, carpentry, craft and photography. We have also built a Vocational Training Centre on Nkombo Island which trains 100 students each year.
  • Street Children: A village for street children has been built. 215 children and their families have been supported so far.
