About us

Who we are

The Sickle Cell Society is the UK’s national charity for people affected by sickle cell disorder.

For almost 50 years, we have worked alongside people living with sickle cell, their families and healthcare professionals to improve quality of life, challenge inequalities and drive lasting change. We provide information, advice and advocacy, deliver support services across the UK, and work in partnership with the NHS, researchers, policymakers and industry to improve treatment, care and outcomes for everyone affected by sickle cell.

We're a small, ambitious and supportive team of around 20 dedicated staff and more than 50 active volunteers. Although we're a close-knit organisation, our work has a national impact, influencing policy, improving services and ensuring the voices of people living with sickle cell are heard where it matters most.

If you're looking for a role where your skills can make a genuine difference, we'd love to hear from you.

Our culture and values

Everything we do is driven by a commitment to improving the lives of people living with sickle cell disorder and the families who support them.

We are a collaborative, supportive and inclusive organisation where everyone's contribution matters. As a small team, we work closely together, share ideas, support one another and celebrate our successes. We value different perspectives and believe that the best solutions come from listening to the communities we serve and to each other.

Our values shape how we work every day. We act with compassion and integrity, are accountable for the difference we make, and are committed to tackling the inequalities faced by people affected by sickle cell. Whether we're delivering frontline services, influencing policy, raising awareness or supporting research, we're united by a shared purpose: ensuring that everyone affected by sickle cell has access to the care, support and opportunities they deserve.

Joining the Sickle Cell Society means becoming part of a passionate team whose work has a real and lasting impact on people's lives across the UK.
