Who we are

Our aim at Skillway is to motivate and build confidence in 13 – 16 year olds by teaching them practical skills allied to trades and nurture their personal potential, sometimes for the first time. We aim to work in harmony with a student’s current education to give them a feeling of success and an ability to achieve in a low pressure, nurturing environment. Our students enjoy our ‘hands on‘ learning delivered by skilled volunteer craftspeople, with longstanding experience of their specialist trades. They are treated as young adults in an environment unlike school and are prepared for their next step - whatever that may be. 

Generally, these young people are finding it hard to accept the academic confines of school; becoming disengaged and often disruptive and with school curriculums and budgets becoming more pressured, the practical subjects are the most affected and the offering reduced. Our workshops try to replicate the vocational workplace in ways that will give our students a taste of industry and hopefully instil in them a positive work ethic and outlook on their future.
