About us
Who we are
St Albans & District Foodbank is an independent local charity and part of the Trussell community. Since opening in 2014, we've grown into a well-established foodbank, supporting thousands of people each year through our network of 10 Foodbank centres across the district.
Emergency food remains at the heart of what we do, but we're committed to being More Than a Foodbank. Alongside providing food and essential household items, we work with partners including Citizens Advice and Hertfordshire Mind to offer practical advice, financial guidance, wellbeing support and community connections that help people move beyond hardship.
We're supported by more than 200 volunteers, local businesses, schools, churches, community groups and over 170 referral partners who share our commitment to ensuring nobody in our community has to face hardship alone.
As the need continues to grow, we're investing in new partnerships, Community Kitchens and innovative ways of supporting local people. It's an exciting time to join us and help shape the next stage of our journey.
Our culture and values
At St Albans & District Foodbank, we believe everyone deserves to be treated with dignity, compassion and respect. We know that anyone can experience hardship, and we're committed to creating welcoming, inclusive spaces where people feel listened to, valued and supported.
We're a collaborative and ambitious team that believes in continually improving the way we work. Whether we're supporting someone in crisis, building partnerships or developing new services, we're always looking for better ways to meet the changing needs of our community.
We value kindness, integrity and teamwork, and we're proud of the strong relationships we've built with our volunteers, referral partners, local businesses, schools and churches. Together, we're creating More Than a Foodbank, providing not only emergency food but also practical advice, wellbeing support and opportunities for people to move beyond hardship.
If you're someone who enjoys working with people, building relationships and making a meaningful contribution in your community, you'll feel at home here.
Equality, diversity and inclusion policy
At St Albans & District Foodbank, we believe our team should reflect the diversity of the communities we serve. We're committed to creating an inclusive workplace where everyone is treated with dignity, fairness and respect, regardless of age, disability, gender identity, race, religion or belief, sex, sexual orientation, marital status, pregnancy or maternity, or socio-economic background.
We recognise that people bring different experiences, perspectives and skills, and we believe this strengthens our organisation and the support we provide.
We welcome applications from people of all backgrounds and are committed to ensuring our recruitment process is fair, transparent and based on skills, experience and potential. If you need any adjustments during the recruitment process, we'll be happy to discuss how we can support you.
We strive to create a culture where everyone feels valued, respected and able to contribute, and where discrimination, harassment and bullying have no place.
