About us
Who we are
St Joseph’s Hospice is a 21st century palliative and end of life care provider based in Thornton, Merseyside. It was set up by local priest, Father O’Leary, in 1974.
Each year, St. Joseph’s Hospice cares for around 150 patients with life-limiting, end of life conditions across Merseyside and West Lancashire, and supports over 500 loved ones and family members. In March 2024, we celebrated our 50th anniversary.
What We Do
With 31 bedrooms, St Joseph’s has a larger capacity than most hospices. The complexity of our patient's needs and conditions means that they tend to stay with us longer than they would at other hospice care services.
Our nurse-led service helps create a home from home environment for our patients, and provides ongoing support to their families. Clinical activity is supported by a palliative care consultant, a specialist GP and a local network of specialist clinical support.
Our culture and values
We are committed to social inclusion and equality of opportunity across all our services.
Equality, diversity and inclusion policy
We believe that a culture of equality, diversity and inclusion not only benefits our organisation but supports wellbeing and enables our people to work better because they can be themselves and feel that they belong.
We are committed to promoting a working environment based on dignity, trust and respect, and one that is free from discrimination, harassment, bullying or victimisation.
