About us
Who we are
St Wilfrid’s Centre is a day centre based in Sheffield and is open daily Monday to Friday 10am to 4pm to homeless, vulnerable or socially excluded adults aged 18+.
St Wilfrid’s Centre is a community where isolated, vulnerable, socially excluded and homeless adults can find understanding, practical assistance, a sense of belonging and the support to regain self-esteem.
We aim to provide individuals with opportunities to improve their quality of life.
We have a skilled staff team that offer basic Welfare Services as well as activities to promote wellbeing and independence, includign a fully-equipped workshop and allotment. Every aspect of the Centre aims to improve clients’ wellbeing and reduce their vulnerability.
The Centre runs activities each week. Some of these sessions are tailored to meet the individual’s needs whilst most are group activities. Sessions are run by staff, supported, at times, by volunteers.
We provide a two course hot meal daily, served in our dining room and prepared by our in-house cook. In addition, we run a café, where drinks and light snacks are available throughout the day for a nominal charge.
All of our activities are based at our Centre or on our allotment and we also run trips and outings for clients in our minibus.
Planning permission has recently been submitted to develop the adjacent site in to a larger cafe, community room and shop and also to improve access to the existing building via a lift.
Our culture and values
Our starting point is that the past and present experiences of people are respected and that they have the capacity to determine their future circumstances regardless of their starting point.
As an inclusive community, our aim is not just to support adults with vulnerabilities and ‘differences’ but we fully embrace the notion that diversity is a reality and that every person has their own unique needs and strengths. Society can 'disable' some people by not recognising their diverse needs. Barriers are not created by learning difficulties, disabilities, cultures and/or socio-economic groups but by systems and communities that do not recognise, support and/or respond to these differences.’

Equality and Diversity Statement
The Steering Group, Director, staff and volunteers are committed to promoting and developing equality of opportunity, ensuring that all members of St Wilfrid’s Centre community and the wider community are treated fairly and with respect by the Centre and by each other. We are committed to maintaining a cohesive community within and around the Centre and place the promotion of equality of opportunity at the heart of our work, seeking to ensure that these principles are understood and acted upon consistently.
When making decisions of a strategic nature we will have due regard to the desirability of exercising them in a way that is designed to reduce the inequalities of outcome which result from socio-economic disadvantage.
