About us
Who we are
Step Up MCR is the place-based charity supporting happier, healthier and more connected Manchester communities through the power of local giving.
Working hyper-locally in Ancoats & Beswick, Clayton & Openshaw and Miles Platting & Newton Heath, we:
- Connect with residents, community groups, businesses and place partners to improve local health, wellbeing and employment outcomes.
- Co-ordinate local giving of time, funding, resources, space and expertise.
- Increase the capacity of local projects and boost the skills of residents, staff and volunteers.
- Support pride in places with an arts-let approach, bring people together to make a collective impact, and give residents the tools they need to make changes in their neighbourhood.
- Deliver small community grants programmes and shift power to communities to make decisions on how local funding is invested.
- Improve civic engagement, participation and action.
Our culture and values
Vision: Step Up MCR’s vision is a Manchester with local giving at its heart, where all communities feel happy, healthy and in control.
Mission: Our mission is to get Manchester giving. By sharing our time, money, resources and skills, we can support local projects making a real difference in communities.
Values: Our core values of TRUST, COLLABORATION and POWER SHIFTING give us the framework to enable anyone to make a positive difference and be proud of the places they live and work.
TRUST
Our communities have long felt neglected and ignored. To make meaningful change, people need to trust that we’ll do what we say we’ll do. Strong and trusted relationships come with listening to what people want, championing communities and involving everyone who cares about their place.
COLLABORATION
We connect people who know places best. By bringing together the public, private and voluntary sector with those in neighbourhoods, we aim to shape systems-change through collective vision, voice and action.
POWER SHIFTING
Traditional power structures aren’t working for the people who rely on them most. We put communities at the centre of decisions that affect them, and lobby for centrally-held power to be devolved to a local level. In shifting power and resources to communities most affected by inequalities, we transform each person’s sense of belonging and ownership.
Equality, diversity and inclusion policy
In order to ensure equity of opportunity, we offer a guaranteed interview to any candidate meeting the essential criteria as listed in the person specification who identifies as a disabled person.
The successful candidate will be required to undertake a basic Disclosure and barring Service (DBS) check. A positive Disclosure of Offences will not automatically bar an applicant from being appointed and suitable applicants will not be refused employment because of offences that are not relevant.
Step Up MCR values diversity, promotes equity and challenges discrimination. We encourage and welcome applications from people of all backgrounds. We are committed to ensuring that no applicant or employee receives less favourable treatment on the grounds of gender, age, disability, religion, belief, sexual orientation, marital status, or race.
Step Up MCR is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all children, young people and vulnerable adults with whom we work. We expect all our employees to demonstrate this commitment.
