About us

Who we are

STEPS Rehabilitation Foundation is a charitable trust that launched in Autumn 2023, dedicated to providing support and funding for individuals recovering from complex trauma injuries and illness. Our aim is to improve the quality of life for people with disabilities following injury or illness, helping them access specialist rehabilitation services and equipment they might otherwise have no way of reaching.

We fund things like specialist rehabilitation therapies (physiotherapy, occupational therapy, hydrotherapy), home adaptations, disability aids and specialist equipment such as wheelchairs, and accessible leisure and sport experiences. We support individuals across South Yorkshire, North Yorkshire, Derbyshire, Greater Manchester, County Durham and Tyne & Wear who have no alternative funding options available to them, such as a personal injury claim or other funds.

The Foundation is run by a team of dedicated trustees, some of whom have life-changing injuries of their own, and is entirely independently governed, though we share a name and ethos with STEPS Rehabilitation. Charity number: 1202566.

Our culture and values

Compassion, empowerment and integrity sit at the heart of everything we do. We're a small, close-knit board of trustees who care deeply about the people we exist to help, many of whom bring lived experience of life-changing injury to the table themselves.

We're an ambitious young charity, still building our team and our systems, so we value people who are self-starters, comfortable with autonomy, and motivated by genuinely seeing the difference their work makes. We work collaboratively and informally, supporting one another and drawing on the wider STEPS family (marketing, finance, and operational expertise) where it helps us move faster and do more for the people we support.

Equality, diversity and inclusion policy

STEPS Rehabilitation Foundation is committed to equality of opportunity in everything we do, from how we recruit and support our people to how we assess grant applications. We welcome applications from all suitably qualified candidates regardless of background, and we're committed to making our recruitment process fair and accessible to everyone.

We believe our work is strengthened by diversity of experience and perspective, and we're committed to treating every individual, whether staff, trustee, volunteer or grant applicant, with dignity, fairness and respect.
