About us
Who we are
Taunton Foodbank was established in 2012 when the extent and effect of hunger in our local community was raised with representatives of Churches together in Taunton. The churches repsonded by contacting the Trussell Trust for support and advice in setting up a local foodbank and in July 2012 with a small band of volunteers we opened our doors. In 2015 the Foodbank became a registered charity and employed the first paid member of staff to take the work forward. The Foodbank comprises an office base, distribution centre and warehouse on one site in Taunton, with sattelite distribution centres in Wellington and Wiviliscombe. We have increased the number of paid staff and have over 80 dedicated volunteers who pick up food from the supermarkets, sort and store food in the warehouse, pack food parcels for clients and run our distribution centres. Taunton Foodbank works in partnership with our Somerset Citizens Advice to offer on-site advice and support to our clients visiting our distribution centres.
We are now entering a new phase of Taunton Foodbank as we re-organise our staffing structure and look to
expand the work we do in supporting our clients beyond the provision of emergency food.
